Working together for a safer & Resilient Future
NTARC is a unique, self-funded partnership of eight councils in northeast Tasmania, working together to strengthen regional climate resilience. We address climate change as a complex challenge—physical, governance, and transitional—impacting strategic governance, assets, services, and programs.
Our focus includes:
Understanding climate vulnerabilities and exposures across councils.
Developing practical, evidence-based tools to assess risks, measure carbon footprints, and take action.
Supporting collaboration to share knowledge, avoid duplication, and harmonize efforts across boundaries.
Building on over 25 years of local government climate action, NTARC is working to helps the region prepare for more frequent natural hazards, emerging climate conditions, and the transition to a low-carbon economy—creating stronger communities and a sustainable future.
WHY WE EXIST
Build the skills and knowledge within councils to include climate change in everyday and long-term decision-making.
Work together across councils to take a consistent approach to assessing and adapting to climate risks.
Collaborate with the Tasmanian Government to help shape policies, processes, and laws, such as the Tasmanian Planning Scheme, that affect councils’ ability to respond to climate change and build re.
Share information, knowledge, data, and resources to ensure councils use the best evidence and practices for climate adaptation.
HOw we are doing this
Our Changing Climate
The northeast councils are working to understand how the region’s climate is shifting, so they can plan and respond effectively at both local and regional levels.
For Councils
Councils are key to planning and acting on climate change. They can deliver effective and coordinated responses across communities and the region.
For Community
Everyone can contribute to building climate resilience by reducing emissions, preparing for risks, and supporting sustainable local practices.
